November tractor sales of 566 units were significantly (25%) up on the 453 units sold in November last year.   On a year-to-date basis, tractor sales are now 8% up on what they were this time last year.   November combine harvester sales of 11 units were a single unit less than the 12 units sold in November last year.   Combine harvester sales for the year-to-date are now 7% up on last year.

After the promising beginning to the summer-cropping season, some areas did not have follow-up rain.   Since then, however, there has been widespread rain in most of these areas.   Planting of summer crops has therefore been delayed in many areas.   Nevertheless, farmers are optimistic for the forthcoming summer rainfall season.   It remains a buyers’ market, with lower-priced stock available in some instances.   The exchange rate is being watched carefully because of its effect on crop prices and prices of imported equipment.   Calendar year 2017 tractor sales now look likely to exceed those of 2016 by at least 5%.
